Curated by Fundació Mies van der Rohe

We reaffirm our commitment to sustainability as the central theme of our event through the CONSTRUMAT Awards, curated by Fundació Mies van der Rohe, an institution with international experience in research, criticism, and dissemination of modern and contemporary architecture.

Recognizing the most sustainable buildings

The CONSTRUMAT Awards, created in 1985 by the Fair’s organizing committee, is a biennial edition and throughout its history has distinguished the excellence of architectural and engineering works and projects based on environment-friendly construction, the transversality of professional services, and the innovation by research on construction systems and new materials.

The 20th edition of the CONSTRUMAT Awards is an opportunity to go on and distinguish those studios, companies, consultants, builders, and clients who, by means of their architectural works, contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) adopted by the United Nations to implement the 2030 Agenda, turning these into references for future strategic plans.

Procedure and categories

The CONSTRUMAT Awards 2024 will focus on environmental SUSTAINABILITY, therefore, unlike previous editions and due to the Award specialization, an expert committee will nominate a set of relevant sustainable works. The board will evaluate the criteria and professional commitment in the design and construction of sustainable, efficient, healthy, and affordable buildings and cities that contribute to the well-being of people and the planet

Two PRIZES will be awarded among the nominated works by the expert committee:

  • Prize to the winning proposal chosen by a qualified jury.

  • Prize to the work selected by public vot.

Expert Committee

The scientific committee will be composed by representatives of institutions, associations or groups specialized on the research, practice, and promotion of SUSTAINABILITY in architecture

The knowledge and experience of the committee is essential to guarantee the rigor and quality of the nominated works, as well as to justify and establish the insights that must define the Awards

L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui (AA)

L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui (AA), founded in 1930, is the oldest French architecture magazine. It’s a bilingual French-English journal and distributed worldwide. AA comprehends architecture as the embodiment of cultures in the broadest sense, defining architecture as THE discipline at the forefront of ecological issues. In other words, with six thematic issues per year and as many special issues, AA offers an overview of the ecological question not only from an energy or technical perspective, but also from a social and cultural one through emblematic and manifest architectures and buildings.

Emmanuelle Borne

Chief editor of L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui

Sustainability and Architecture Association (ASA)

The Sustainability and Architecture Association (ASA) is an independent, non-profit association, with open participation and neutral character, formed fundamentally by architectural professionals with common concerns and knowledge on sustainability and architecture issues. ASA was established in 2007, promoted by the Higher Council of Architects Associations in Spain (CSCAE), with the aim of raising awareness about the design of sustainable environments in architecture and urban planning, through activities that promote the culture of sustainability, both in training, practice, and dissemination of knowledge, with the aim of legitimizing architects as valid interlocutors in the collective challenge of sustainability.

Manuel Enríquez Jiménez. ASA Chair.

Architect, partner at ByE arquitectos and lecturer at Navarra School of Architecture (ETSAUN).

Architecture and Sustainability Association (AUS)

The Architecture and Sustainability Association (AUS), within the Association of Architects in Catalonia (COAC), brings together technicians with environmental and social sensitivity interested somehow in the sustainability of buildings and urban planning, and who often work in this field in their professional career. AUS defends sustainable habitats for the well-being of the planet and its inhabitants. The aim is to seek a world that combats climate change, minimizes energy demand and waste, and preserves natural heritage. AUS is committed to an architectural and urban model that is carbon-free, efficient, culturally rooted and a forerunner of social transformation.
